Khmer greystone sculpture shows a rare iconic scene from Indian literature of the powerful Hindu Deity Vishnu, is the preserver and protector of the universe, with his consort Lakshmi,is known as the goddess of wealth and purity. The carving presents both figures percariously positioned sitting on a rectangular plinth, gracefully modelled with Vishnu's right hand extended in gesture, holding an attribute, and his left arm about Lakshmi's waist. They are unclothed above the waist, wearing traditoinal vertical striated sampots, secured by a plain belt about their hips. Their heads are covered by Angkorian style interconnected Diadem crowns. Vishnu represents Sattvaguna and is the centripetal force as it were, responsible for sustenance, protection and maintenance of the created universe.
